I was a bit bored in the get-go two capacity, but I take quickly realized that this book's ho-hum, gradual developments are something beautiful to behold.
I discover myself curious what will happen nextbecause the events in this volume are new and different from what happened in the Disney'due south version of Dazzler and the Animal. No library gift, no snowball fight, no "tale as old as time" dancing moment with THE yellow dress, etc.

Reading this book gives me the coziest feeling ever.I was a bit bored in the start 2 chapters, but I have rapidly realized that this book's slow, gradual developments are something beautiful to behold.
I find myself curious what will happen nextbecause the events in this book are new and different from what happened in the Disney'south version of Dazzler and the Beast. No library gift, no snowball fight, no "tale as former every bit time" dancing moment with THE yellow wearing apparel, etc.
In that location isn't even a Gaston or talking cups and other household items.
I would call up that I would hate that those highlighted characteristics are non in this book, but it's actually very much refreshing. It'southward even so Beauty and the Beast but a vastly unlike story from the original and from all retellings I accept read.
We still have the grumpy beast, the servants who cheer on the heroine, and the expletive about falling in dearest with the beauty inside. These are the just resemblances we have between this version and the others.
The divergence is that we also notice a true steady growth of a friendship and understanding between Elle and Severin. They spend a lot of time together, sometimes non talking and just enjoying i another's company and other times, they discuss topics from horses to moral conventionalities to responsibilities (to 1's family unit, friends, and country). The author has washed a groovy job establishing that these flawed individuals stand on equal basis. They are both impeccably smart, capable, and compassionate. I dear not only seeing their human relationship develop, but as well seeing them equally individual people. They are lovable, sweet characters who are besides stubborn. I savour in seeing how their views on each other gradually modify from distaste to respect to 18-carat affection to honey. Even though it would be awesome to see signature moments from the original in this book – it'southward completely unnecessary because this is a new story filled with all new wonderful things. I am truly intrigued by these characters.
In addition, the servants are now masked, voiceless people. I love how they interact with Elle and are continuously trying to matchmake her with Severin. They are so, so, so adorable and funny. I am left feeling all warm and cozy from this fun-loving household. Information technology's great to see Elle create friendships with these people, and to empathise the reason why they genuinely beloved their master.
Then, at that place's Lucien, Severin'south blood brother. I thought I'd detest his guts, but he's a pretty all correct character. I love the emphasis on brotherly love and loyalty. This guy is a bit of an asshole, but it's great to see that he can be reasonable and good to Severin. This is different from other books (and I suppose, history) where there's always jealousy and violence betwixt the legitimate brother and illegitimate brother.
I besides love the plot twist at the terminate. (view spoiler)[I knew she was a spy, but apparently, she's a spy for the person who I wouldn't even guess. Beloved this development as well because Elle is pretty badass. (hide spoiler)]
My only real complaint is that I would have liked a bit more to the catastrophe. Like but one more chapter would have been nice.
Overall, iv.v stars. Such a lovely read, and at present, I am entirely looking forward to reading the next in the series and reading more from this author. I beloved the story of Elle, Severin, and the masked servants. This is a perfect, cozy read. It's a retelling that manages to not only "retell." A lot of Beauty and the Fauna retelling tend to be a chip Also similar to one other and to the original. This one, however, manages to bring new, delightful things to the story without marring the original idea.
Things that you might desire to know (WARNING: Spoilers below)Is there a happy/satisfying catastrophe? (view spoiler)[Happy, yes, simply I would have liked a bit more of an epilogue. Still it'due south a happy and really good ending. (hide spoiler)]
Honey triangle? Adulterous? Angst level? (view spoiler)[No, no, depression. (hide spoiler)]
Tears-worthy? (view spoiler)[Some touching scenes, merely not a sad book. (hide spoiler)]
Sense of humor? (view spoiler)[ Yes. (hide spoiler)]
Favorite scene? (view spoiler)[When Severin and Elle are sitting in front of the fireplace and she fell asleep on his lap. When the household meddles. When Elle realizes that Severin truly would protect and care for her. When Severin saves Elle from a squirrel. When Emele tells Elle nigh her past and how she fell in love with Marc. When Emele bosses around Elle. When Elle spends time with Severin in his study room. When they have food together at the dining room. Etc. (hide spoiler)]
What age level would be appropriate? (view spoiler)[Innocent stuff here. Any age. (hibernate spoiler)]

Another Beauty and the Beast retelling, of which there are myriad. Another Dazzler and the Beast retelling, of which there are myriad. This i has a few interesting twists, but -- reality check fourth dimension here -- several major weaknesses likewise, most of which are probably considering this is an indie author who didn't go some editing help that she really could have used. It'southward a prissy endeavor, though, and the author has potential. It was okay for a Kindle freebie, only I came thisclose to skipping the longwinded, rather dull eye section of the book and jumping to the end. ii.5 stars, which I would round down to 2 if this weren't an indie author, but I'thousand going to cut Shea a fiddling slack.
Elle (for reasons that the writer coyly hides for most of the story) falls through a stained drinking glass panel in the roof of a land chateau, wherein lives Prince Severin, who has been cursed to live equally a creature, along with his servants, who are nether a curse also: their faces are ... um, well, I'm not sure what, since their faces are subconscious by masks, but in any instance they're all mute and communicate with slates and chalk.
Severin is understandably a very grumpy character, and wants Elle sent on her way yesterday, if non sooner.
Only Elle broke her leg desperately in the fall, and Severin'due south on-staff dr. insists that she stay there for weeks, if not months, to heal. The servants all know that beloved volition break the curse, so they'll do whatever it takes to keep throwing Elle and Severin together. Too bad Elle and Severin despise each other and then deeply!
So we all know where this is going, eventually, but is the ride worth it? Well, Severin (who is considered a prince even though he was illegitimate) has an interesting relationship with his brother, the ruler of their state. There are some nice allusions to roses and to some elements of the original fairy tale, without being heavy-handed. The servants take some character, though the enchantress character didn't really fit in well for me. Elle has a very different backstory that comes out in the end. I thought the story was a little deliberately misleading on why she was there at the chateau in the first place, simply I enjoyed the twist.
I did take issues with the rather slow, interminable middle office where Severin grouches, servants connive, Elle frets about her duties that she can't fulfill because of her injury, and tries to go back on her anxiety every bit soon as possible. Non a whole lot else happens for about half the book, other than them gradually getting to know and like each other, and it wasn't compelling enough for me. It was kind of foreign, since there were a few other more than heady events in the story that were given short shrift(view spoiler)[Elle's adventures with the assassins at the finish (hide spoiler)]. Romantic tension between Severin and Elle was almost not-existent.
Other problems were that Severin'southward and the servants' reactions, when they finally find out who Elle is, were overblown, manner out of proportion to Elle's (partial) misleading them as to her past. I never bought that, nor did I buy Elle's quick forgiveness of Severin'southward long-past mistreatment of her, which was the reason for all of her initial hatred of him. He was all, sorry, that was barbarous and unfair, I won't do information technology again, and that was it. They pretty much handwaved the problem away.
If you have a major fondness for fairy tale retellings, this isn't bad, only its indie roots show a bit too much. I wouldn't recommend it to more critical readers.

The romance was cute and the characters were fun, merely the center dragged painfully and the ending was rushed to the indicate of conclusion. Likewise, the mode that the plot twist was handled is a peeve of mine, and I especially didn't like the way that this one was handled.
Simply, at to the lowest degree information technology did bring some interesting ideas to the tabular array, and information technology wasn't retelling the Disney movie. Points for that.

You lot would remember that past now I'd be sick and tired of retellings, but surprisingly enough this story was quite readable, until the Fauna's transformation (oy) and despite an avalanche of grammatical mistakes.
I especially liked the attention given to the secondary characters and how the writer was able to give a fresh face to both Beauty and The Animate being.

You would think that by now I'd be ill and tired of retellings, but surprisingly enough this story was quite readable, until the Animal's transformation (oy) and despite an avalanche of grammatical mistakes.
I particularly liked the attention given to the secondary characters and how the author was able to requite a fresh confront to both Beauty and The Beast.
Here, Beauty, a daughter named Elle, literally comes crashing into the Creature's palace. There's a secret surrounding her...okay, not much of a underground once we start reading it, only information technology's unlike from all the retellings that I've read and then far.
As for the Animal, Severine, he actually has a family unit; I mean a living family with whom he can _ and does _ collaborate.
This is more often than not a character driven story because not much happens in here. Despite that, I did kept reading because I do like snark... despite it at fourth dimension existence delivered right in the eye of an awful phrase. And English is non fifty-fifty my first language...
Then aye, this story needs urgent proofreading skills... and less cheese...
Which brings me to the terminal function of the story right afterwards Severine gets turned into a man over again, considering that role was bad. Upwardly until then, we had somewhat intelligent characters, and afterwards the transformation, the thing was similar, "oops, there'south goes ninety pct of my cerebral activeness aslope with my no longer needed fur!"
Or, "hey, I have my facial expressions back, just I had to trade them for my marbles!"
Basically the writer spend and so much time in the commencement part of the book, going over the same things, over and over, and all of a sudden, in that location's kids (really 1) crossing two continents in guild to observe some Enchantress; and he finds her! In a few pages!
Too the whole Enchantress plot was kind of weird...
Every bit for the whole romance, well, at that place's growing friendship and then nosotros're bludgeoned with the motto, "BEAUTY AND Allure ARE TEMPORARY... so y'all should but stick with a friend."
Despite that, I confess myself curious to check if the writer's writing skills improved.
Edit:
After reading some reviews for the 2d volume, you know what, I remember I'thou done with this series -_-
I loved the slower pace of this one. It allowed the story, and the love connexion, to actually flourish and abound, along with the whimsical characters. Information technology wasn't just "Belle and the Beast" that were developed here. I fell in
Beauty and the Beast is a classic tale that has been re-written with enchantment and elegance. Kitty has done a fabulous job with keeping the faerie tale feel in her retelling, along with adding her own entertaining twists. Her take on this classic tale is rich and satisfying!I loved the slower step of this one. It allowed the story, and the love connection, to really flourish and grow, along with the whimsical characters. It wasn't merely "Belle and the Animal" that were adult here. I cruel in love with Emele, Bernadine, Duval and Oliver. Each graphic symbol had a part to play, and each grapheme just fit with their own quirky personalities.
The story twists were enjoyable and had a bit of unpredictability to them. Severin's character had quite a different background than we are used to with the tale. Elle was not your average "damsel in distress," "book-nerd." At that place was no Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, or Gaston. But there was an evil witch, and an enchantress. I loved how the story somewhat followed what is known from the tale, but also had whimsical changes that fit quite nicely. The story had humor, friendship, danger, intrigue, and a satisfyingly happy catastrophe!
Kitty has an exceptional way of writing with beauty and poise. She too finds elegant ways to incorporate touching morals in to her stories. This one shimmered with hope and the importance of inner dazzler. Information technology was magical and beautiful. It spoke of friendship and truthful dearest.

After reading Daughter of Smoke and Os Trilogy, I needed something lighter read, and this one seemed what I needed. I don't know how many retellings of Beauty and the Fauna have I already read but this i is the simplest of them all. Yeah that sounds negative but like I said, I needed something lighter. Ahm have I said before that I'1000 a moody reader? Well, I am.
Another time, the simplest of the plot might've discouraged me to read this but thankfully last night was not that time. Hehe. For me, this one's an okay retelling. There are fiddling twists that I liked and though they were slightly predictable, I still enjoyed them. I also enjoyed Elle and Severin's moments. They're so sweet and fun to read. The servants are all interesting characters too.
Only, I recall the plot resembles the original a little too much and so I tin can't give it higher than my rating. I know this is a retelling but still. Only like I said I liked the trivial twists that seemed original and the characters made up for information technology. Overall, I withal recommend this ane to anyone who'southward looking for a light, fun read. This is a brusk book besides.

Frederick the NiftyFormula for a Beauty and the Beast Fairy Tale: Enchanted Chateau; Cursed hero Prince; Cursed servants; Heroine's bankrupt merchant father; Supporting said father and sisters; Merely true dear tin/volition intermission the expletive; Magic. Check!
We now have the formula for some other version of our classic tale Beauty and the Beast. Our prince was cursed and condemned to live as a beast both in body and mind. However, an Enchantress came along and tweaked the evil curse plenty that it cleared the heed of our hero so that he was now human in thought and heed. However, at that place was also a provision that could/would break the expletive… he had to fall in love. Now that just might be a problem… peculiarly when y'all have the body and features of a animal.
"There is a brutal fauna in every man, and when you hand that human being a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs." George R. R. Martin, A Storm of Swords
This took me a while to get into as we join the story well into the life of the Prince every bit a beast. He is living in isolation with his cursed features and that of his cursed mute servants, who also accept animalistic traits. Everything is peaceful and tranquillity, until, she falls through the skylight into his chateau. With a broken leg, Elle is stranded at the chateau and unable to exit. Why was she on the roof? Why was she even at the chateau? Why is she so angry at the crown and what secrets does she withhold from the prince?
"The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides." Audrey Hepburn
Once I got into the story, it was really cute. There was only one niggling trouble… in that location was not a lot of explanation regarding backstory. We are given information fait accompli. This had the feel of arriving at the cinema and taking a seat well after the pic has already started. Perhaps waiting in line for popcorn wasn't such a good idea later on all. I tin't inquire anyone who, what, when or why… that person behind us is 1 that will shush you for talking in the cinema. Grrrr! And then now, I am dependent on clues that will aid me understand what the heck happened.
What I liked: The writer did an excellent job of letting the human relationship develop over fourth dimension. This was not one of those 'I hate you lot' ane minute and 'I dear yous' the side by side type of story… give thanks goodness. The evolution of understanding really drew me in. The big reveal happened at about 84% on my reader. I had been so worried virtually who and what Elle really was, that I breathed a tremendous breath when the reveal came most. I LOVED this part. It was really well washed by the author. I was so happy she wasn't someone else. There were so many possibilities. The author painted so many rabbit trails and fake leads that information technology had me fearing for our heroine. This was the perfect ploy. The foreshadowing throughout the whole story was correct there in forepart of me and I simply did not see information technology. Wow, information technology was so cute. At that place was a lot of anger and angst with the reveal and forgiveness didn't come up easily.
Rating: PG13: due to the violence of the brute before his reclaiming. This is book i of the Timeless Fairy Tales series. There are nine books that follow the classic tales so far. The prince's brother is featured in book 9.

This wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I appreciated that this tried to put a twist on the Disney version of this fairy tale (which is unfortunately the just one this reader knows). Even so something about this author's writing style failed to engage me. I suppose I like more subtle and nuanced writing, and this story was told in a rather straightforward style. And the quick manner in which all the bad feelings were resolved at the end made me mad. Honestly, where was the groveling? I didn't want the h to be a bitter shrew, but she deserved friends who didn't just abandon her the moment they thought she did something incorrect. And then overall, an ok read in the land of retellings.

This was a fun twist and certain aspects were definitely unique to the story!
I LOVED Elle the main graphic symbol, I loved how strong she was equally a character and I appreciated many aspects of her own story that you acquire about later on in the book and how she came to be in the Chanceux Chateau (the cursed castle).
I loved the beast
I don't recollect how I came across this book merely considering of information technology I am not on a Beauty and the Beast frenzy and and then found and got like fifteen other beauty and the beast retellings! This was a fun twist and sure aspects were definitely unique to the story!
I LOVED Elle the principal character, I loved how potent she was as a grapheme and I appreciated many aspects of her own story that you larn almost afterwards on in the book and how she came to be in the Chanceux Chateau (the cursed castle).
I loved the fauna, he was awesome and sweet and kind. I liked how he came to be cursed which was different than the usual reason why the beast is cursed which was appreciated. And his backstory was likewise a nice change to encounter.
I liked the staff and how they are cursed with the beast.
Ane affair that bothered me though was the writing, information technology wasn't horrible just there were times when the writer seemed to almost give upward, similar I would exist reading and it almost seemed like she didn't know what or how to write the next stride and gave up and it a trivial choppy I guess is the best mode to describe information technology.
Besides when the curse was broken it bummed me out how quick the animal and his staff were to merely throw away Elle and non believe her after they've spent literally months with her, really? it just didn't fit with the balance of the story.
Yet overall I LOVED information technology and it brand my heart flutter at times which always shoots the rating for me which a book tin can make me Feel for the characters regardless of what I didn't like nigh it.

SUMMARY: one night the cursed master of the chateaux, the illegitimate prince, is conducting his dark when a girl falls through the glass roof of his dwelling. The servants watch every bit she screams from her broken leg. When they approached her she showed no fearfulness. Their faces were permananantly covered in masks and they could not speak equally role of their princes curse. She showed no fear as the primary approached, a sinister and pedatory mixture of humans and true cat. Elle is forced to stay at the chateaux from her broken leg. The prince wants no interest with her merely eventually the efforts of the servants force them to become friends. Despite their differences they bind over simple and silly things. Tin can Elle be the daughter who breaks the curse by loving the prince in this form and capturing his heart? Tin can they overcome their course differences and Elle's secrets? Will Elle'south family exist rubber as she is forced to delay her indentured duties from her broken leg? Can she befriend a man and so responsible for her families misfortunes and her ain labors?
The best parts: the characters were connectable, intricate, and engaging. The plot and descriptions were detailed lending an impressive sense of genuine-ness to the story. I particularly loved Severin-- the "beast". Beneath his misleading all the same actually very authentic outside he is a bang-up person, very loyal, and still involved in the Crown'southward affairs. He too does not hate everyone or act in a manner that reflects his exterior besides his inner strength, and he is by no ways perfect. Elle is incredibly inspiring and she carries a twist in the story. She is also non a weak and vapid character as one might call back from the championship. She is too not a delicate beautiful princess equally other stories have often pictured beauty. I thought that the situation of the servants was intriguing and Elle'southward outside life was very interesting. The chateaux was also a slap-up place.
the non-so-best parts: I idea that there were rather strange and insensible parts to the volume. such equally: why did Severin never questions why elle Brutal THROUGH HIS ROOF? and why is she automatically left at someone else's home, and treated like a queen, taking everything for granted? I also thought that nosotros saw besides little of Elle'south exterior life. The catastrophe was boggling entertaining, and could take been much more riveting, yet instead we barely come across or hear annihilation at all. I as well wished we could have read more from Severin's point of view.
For the most part, I would recommend this book for a calorie-free yet humorous read, with some interesting twists and underlying meanings. Information technology was definitely a fun read! withal, if you are looking for a more dark or archetype version of a fairy tale, this may not be your book. Be forewarned: there is no magical ball in which everything magically falls into identify.

Review: This is a fairy tale of Beauty and the Fauna retold. Obviously I know. I love Beauty an the Brute. It is my favorite all time fairy tale.
This one was a bit different. Elle (Beauty) falls through a glass skylight of Prince Severin's (Beast) castle. Elle survives the autumn but with a cleaved leg and many cuts to her arms. The servants who are not furniture but are cursed to habiliment masks and have no voice plead with Severin to let her stay and heal upwardly. Elle is and so taken care of past Emele who was a lady in waiting. Emele begs Elle to give Prince Severin a chance. Elle agrees but because she volition do information technology for Emele.
I liked this. It wasn't a bad retelling. I liked how the servants part of the curse. They all talked through hand gestures and slates. The animate being was a mixture between cat and dog but mostly cat. I wish there was a little more telling of why the Prince was cursed.
The banter between Elle and Prince Severin was comical. The falling in love was cute. Emele was a drama queen simply the funny kind. The kind that over exaggerates not the kind that makes drama. I loved the characters. It was a light read. I will continue on with the series and come across how well the other fairy tales are told.

I had some reservations about this B&tB retelling when Tadiana mentioned the lack of sexual tension. It's usually cardinal in this story, the edifice attraction. The focus was more on the developing friendship betwixt the MCs. The friendships between Prince Severin, his bro, the staff, and Elle were really quite good. I fifty-fifty loved the fatty dog and the pony.I didn't similar the way things went after the curse was broken (if that was a spoiler, you lot're a dodo) and everyone gets all aroused. I was shocked and surprised many times in the storyline as the writer added and then much more than depth to the original tale. Definitely some cute romance too, and I loved the gentle manner they cruel in dear.

I loved every single thing about this book. I was Merely looking for a Dazzler and the Beast story for grown ups, and within a few weeks, my book club had called this book for our next read. I was so excited.
The one and only critique I accept was that the transformation from animate being seemed a little lacking in wonder. Information technology seemed like it was rushed. Other than that, this is a new favorite of mine and I'll definitely be reading more from this author.

3rd or 4th time reading information technology. Still fabulous! Beloved the humour, plot, characters and use of linguistic communication!
All the same totally clean though ;)
Back to the curse Severn
While this was an interesting story information technology has little resemblance to the fairy tale other than the fact that a homo has been turned into a beast and and then that he must find love to be turned back. This man, Severn is the illegitimate one-half brother to Prince Lucien but they are friends, they love each other and Severn is in accuse of the defense of their country. Severn throughout this story is attempting to persuade his brother not to wage war to take over a neighboring country.Back to the curse Severn (and his household are under). The good enchantress (equally in Sleeping Beauty) is able to modify the curse at its onset - in that she makes it Non a permanent expletive but but until he finds that dearest. He has moved his household into a secluded location in a wood due to the taunting and disdain people in the city brandish towards these disfigured beings who at present wear masks and are unable to speak.
In that location is a mystery about Elle. She is leaping from place to identify on the rooftop when she falls through a skylight and breaks her leg amid other injuries. She cannot go out for weeks due to her incapacity to walk so she lies about her situation and fakes an accent.
Soon she finds herself eating dinner with Severn who mainly seems to ignore her as he tends to maps and paperwork. As the story goes on and Elle beings to use a crutch information technology becomes obvious that the servants are pushing her to be with Severn equally much as possible. She also observes that he cares nigh those people. They use slates to communicate equally he is the only one who is able to talk. Elle informs them that she cannot read (a lie) and time is spent educating her in that.
We gradually learn that Elle'south presence on the roof was in her part of being a spy and that her success in that determines her family unit's welfare. There is too a resentment towards Severn as she holds him responsible for that role, that indenture to the Crown.
This tale was interesting and held my attention especially in the fact that it took a different path from the canon, Dazzler and the Animal.

I enjoyed the writing and I really liked the character of Severin, the fauna, he was really well written and very likable.
I didn't care much about Elle and I just could not feel the romance at all which to me is a big office of the volume, I mean we really should connect with them for it to piece of work!

This is the story of Dazzler and the Beast and information technology follows the original story without any surprises.I enjoyed the writing and I really liked the character of Severin, the fauna, he was actually well written and very likable.

The cursed staff and servants could not speak so they used slates to write and I actually didn't like that, it was very hard to believe the conversations and the fact that all the staff could really write.
Also it was very silly to believe that Elle could learn reading that fast, someone had to be suspicious, but NO.
I also thought it was trying very hard to exist funny.
Information technology was a good written adaptation just lacking in emotions and connectedness.
I love fairytales and I'm trying to go through some adaptations so I volition be reading more of these.

This one is really hard to rate! It is very well written just it is almost exactly like the original story! At that place is VERY little difference until the end. There is the twist of Elle's background and the servants aren't household items only... yep. With those exceptions, everything else follows almost exactly the one you see in movies.
It's the catastrophe that makes the re-reading of the original truly worth information technology. Now It is original and artistic! Although I strongly felt the retainer-"friends" of E

It'southward the catastrophe that makes the re-reading of the original truly worth information technology. Now It is original and creative! Although I strongly felt the servant-"friends" of Elle should have been required more groveling before jumping back into Elle's good grace (Fashion to easily resolved) the remainder is wonderful!
I love to write funny, clean stories with potent characters. Books similar that are amongst my favorite to read so naturally I love writing stories like that likewise. My philosophy is that life is tough, so books should be something that makes you relax and express mirth!
